Furnace FYI

Did you know that you should have your furnace checked at least once a year? Ideally, it should be checked twice: once in the fall and once in the spring. Not only will regular furnace tune-ups keep your home warm and safe, they’ll also save you the money and time it takes to install a new furnace. Follow along with this furnace FYI and contact us with any questions, or to schedule a tune-up.

How to Know if it’s too Late

Time gets away from us sometimes and we don’t notice signs that our furnace needs attention. If you end up letting your furnace go too long without maintenance, especially if it’s older, you might be in the market for a new one sooner rather than later. The following are signs that it might be time to replace your furnace:

  • Old Age: Once a furnace is 16 years of age it hits a hard, fast decline. The average life expectancy of a furnace is between 16 and 20 years. At that point, it’s much less efficient and ends up costing you more money in the long run if you don’t get it replaced.
  • Frequent Repairs: If you’re ringing us every month to come down for furnace repairs, it might be time to replace it. Constant repairs can end up costing just as much, if not more than replacing it.

Follow the 50 percent rule: If repairs cost 50 percent of or more than the replacement, you should replace your furnace.

  • High Energy Bills: If you notice a significant increase in your heating bill, your furnace may no longer be operating efficiently, especially if you haven’t had a recent tune-up.
  • Fluctuating Room Temperatures: Constantly adjusting your thermostat to fix uneven and fluctuating room temperatures is another sign it may be time to start looking at installing a new furnace.

We are proud to install a variety of heating systems from Daikin and Bryant to fit any home and budget. Contact us today to learn more.

Maintenance and Repairs

To avoid the above, scheduled maintenance is vital. Our team will inspect your gas furnaces and duct work, clean or replace air filters, inspect system mechanics for damage and wear, and more. Schedule HVAC maintenance at least once a year, and twice a year for older furnaces.

A finicky heating system is not just inconvenient, but also unsafe. There’s also the possibility of hazards such as carbon monoxide poisoning. The time you don’t want your furnace to act up is in the middle of a Minnesota winter. If you suspect something is wrong, give us a call and we will help determine what is causing the issues and repair it.

Don’t hesitate to call us with any questions about furnace installation, maintenance, or repairs. Our team will work hard to handle it all as quickly and efficiently as possible.
