Spring Cleaning Checklist for your HVAC System

Spring Cleaning Checklist for your HVAC System

Summer doesn’t officially begin until June 21. That means there’s still time left to get your spring cleaning done. Don’t forget to give your HVAC system a little love during the process to keep it working effectively and efficiently once summer gets here. Follow this spring cleaning checklist for your HVAC system to get started.

Clean Bathroom Fans

If you don’t clean your bathroom fans at least once a year, you should start. Dirt and grime collect in the vent cover and can then re-enter the air in your home when you turn the fan on. Gross!

To clean your bathroom ventilation fan, first, make sure it’s off. Remove the cover and wash it in soapy water. Then, with an old toothbrush, clean off the dirt that has collected on the fan blades.

Check Air Conditioning and Furnace Filters

You should be checking and/or replacing your furnace and air conditioning filters every month. Add it to your spring cleaning checklist so you don’t have to worry about it later.

Duct, Duct, Clean Duct

The ducts in your house have the ability to hide some disgusting things. Schedule a duct cleaning service to make sure everything is running smoothly and that nothing is trapped in your ductwork. Having your ducts cleaned once a year will also alert you to other issues that can affect your entire home, such as mold.

Mop and Dust

Mop and dust your entire house, are important tasks on the spring cleaning list, especially if you’ve been keeping your windows open. Dirt and allergens accumulate on floors, counters, window sills, and other surfaces when you open up your house. When disturbed, the dirt and dust contaminate the air. Avoid poor indoor air quality and do a full-house scrub down.

Window Pains

Make sure all the windows in your home open easily and close tightly. If not, check the weather stripping to make sure it’s applied properly and doesn’t allow any air in or out when the window is closed. This will save you money on cooling costs during those hot days.

Schedule an Air Conditioning Tune-Up

Your air conditioning system has been sitting dormant for the better part of eight months. When your AC has been inactive for long periods of time, it’s always a good idea to have a professional perform a maintenance check. We’ll look at everything from refrigerant levels to the fan motor to air filters. You still have time to repair or replace your air conditioning system before you really need to use it. Contact us today to schedule an AC tune-up service.

If you find anything wrong with your HVAC system as you go through this HVAC spring cleaning checklist, don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re more than happy to help you get your HVAC system ready for the fast-approaching summer months.
